flymas.mobi – as Easy as 1, 2, 3

I’m so proud of our Malaysian Airlines with their recent (imho very smart) move to launch their new mobile site to speed up and ease booking of tickets, check-in, and more – flymas.mobi!

Initial Impressions

I browsed the site with my iPhone 3G and the website loads very fast, and looks very clean:

When I first saw the main page, I am very delighted! They have all the important functions of what an airline website should have. After all, the idea is to enhance customer’s experience, right? Many other airline websites are badly designed, and worst, most don’t function in a mobile device. Flymas.mobi, on the other hand, nail it right on the spot!

When I first saw their promotional banners, I noticed that they used the iPhone images, so I was thinking if it’s just a random pick of device (because it seems popular), or is the website really have some extended capabilities that the iPhone came with. So I clicked “Book Flight”, and voila:

This is very smart use of features. One whole step of choosing where is your most probably origin of travel is decided by making use of iPhone’s GPS feature to determine the closest airport to the customer. I Like this.

Simple Booking Process

Booking process is very straight-forward and doesn’t need much thinking on the customer’s end. Very good implementation of usability here (click on these thumbnails to see the full size. I’ve ordered them in the booking-process order):

Since I didn’t want to really book any flights yet, I didn’t complete the booking for this review. However, my experience thus far has been pretty good with flymas.mobi!

Other features

Online Check In with mobile devices. Ah finally there’s something to do while you’re on that 28-minutes train ride or taxi-ride to the airport – check in!:

Then of course, the option to check for flight schedules so you can plan your trip properly:

Lost or mis-routed baggage? File a report to MAS and then continue with your life (because you can check the status via your phone from time to time):

This last one is my favorite (and I think it’s an awesome fact that MAS included it in this mobile site) – Promotions and offers! Sometimes the only reason you need to travel somewhere is just the cheap tickets!

Conclusion

Personally, I think this is one-step closer to get to the customer. You make your services easily accessible in any medium (web, mobile), and your customers will love you. Good job, MAS!
