Things To Do While Commuting in Public Transport
Malaysia don’t really have the best public transport system in the world, but for most of us, we have to live with it, as we don’t have much choice. Either take the public transport, and wait. Or drive, and get stuck in the jam, and wait (with higher financial expense).
So when you’re taking the public transportation, the “wait” period can be full of agony and boredom if you have nothing to do. Let’s see what can we do to be more productive (or not) during transit:
Read Newspapers (with depressing news)
I usually avoid doing this the first thing in the morning, as newspapers often contains more depressing news than motivating ones. If I somehow end up with a newspaper on my hand, I’ll skip to the lighter, comic section and enjoy.
Listen to Music
Most people do this. iPods, iPhones, Mobile phones, strapped with the earphones and blast away the favorite music. One note though, try not to use the speakerphone in public transports. I find it very annoying, especially when the individual have bad music taste, not to mention annoying sing-alongs.
Check Emails
This could be productive if you are able to access your work e-mail. But sometimes reading personal mail with motivating attachments can do you good as well.
Edit Contact List Entries
Let’s face it – most of the time when we save a new contact in our phone’s address book, we usually only save the name we’re used to, and their phone number. You can take the time available during commute to rename and sort the address book properly. This way you’ll have an always almost-organized address book with you. Get rid of duplicate entries too!
Track the vehicle’s speed with GPS
Alright, I do this when I’m really bored and have nothing better to do. I’ll fire up my GPS receiver and start tracking the route and speed of the vehicle. You’ll be surprised to find out what’s the average speed of the bus/train you’re on. Once a bus have average speed of 30 kph from Cyberjaya to KL Sentral. No wonder it takes almost two hours of transit (end to end)!
Surf The Web
This can be fun, do a random google search on some random keyword, or open up any web address in the advertisement you saw on the way and laughed at how their websites are not mobile-friendly, then scream at your phone for crashing due to lack of memory (or in case for iPhone users, scream because the website is run fully on Flash)
Sleep
Might be a good time to catch up that sleepless night. But be careful not to 1) miss your stop or 2) drool saliva all over the hot lady next to you and be called a pervert and face sexual harassment and lose your job.
These are among the things that I’ve done (except the last one). So what do you guys do?
I think u forget about playing games console, like PSP or DS, I used like to write down idea or do brainstorming on my ride from KL to Penang.

Let my mind wander around… like how the bus/LRT would look like if it can actually transform, or some other random stuff. Yes, I like to let my mind wander around ~
you know, once i was in kl in the train. there was this bunch of guys were playing loud noisy INDIAN music on speaker. wth… -.-
I do poem writing, most of the time. On my phone or on my scrap notebook.
what about singing out loud and making fun of yourself?
or run around screaming “Everybody don’t move! Put your fucking hand in the air! Nobody look at my fucking face!” (preferably with a Russian accent)
me had to commute to klang every working day (to KL), up early in the morning and slightly after dusk.. had many experience on it XD
sleeping is probably 90% what I usually do, and I’d probably snore. oh shoot, I remember some girls were wearing those slackwear kind of clothes, kinda saw their bra sometimes, in between their chests. silly girls who thought guys like me are “unaware”, lolz.
sitting beside a hot girl, we cant do anything to them, so I’d pass.
most of all, I would like to meet with the girl whom actually wants to open up to a total stranger and actually be friends with me. you know, like in densha otoko drama ^_^
life can be hard, but that doesn’t mean it has to be that bad.. just thinking positively.
LOL I do that contact list entries thing! I also clear out old messages and pictures.
