How To: Opening DAA and UIF files
Have you ever obtained any software or media that is packaged in *.DAA or *.UIF format? I have come across a few, and honestly, I have no idea why would anyone package them in those formats, when a good old *.ISO can do.
Searching in major search engines will lead you to two softwares (read: separate) to actually work with these files. Since I’m not a big fan of more than 1 CD/DVD burning suite to be installed on my system, I’ve done more research, and I’ve found two very handy tools to convert these files to the good-ol-ISO!
A genuis named Luigi Ariemma have written two converters to handle each of *.DAA and *.UIF file formats, and turn them into ISO!
“Brilliant!” I thought. But then it dawned to me that these apps are console-based (that is, to be run in your Windows Command Prompt). Putting my Unix background aside, I’m not exactly a big fan of console apps. I mean, why the heck I’m using Windows if I’m gonna run apps in the console right?
So further research leads me to yet another brilliant dude at W-Shadow.com. He have developed a GUI (for non-geeks, GUI is Graphical User Interface, basically, on those buttons and windows you click on everytime you used Windows)
Let’s not waste time, and head on to the DAA Converter GUI or UIF Converter GUI download page!
Now converting these images are as easy as a few clicks:

Just FYI daa2iso and uif2iso don’t need external GUIs since they already implement an internal GUI for Windows which is activated automatically when the tools are launched with double-click.
Thanks for the info Luigi!
