Should I Throw Him Out Of The Window?

I got one big question, open for all.

What if your subordinate, who refuses to do any job (within their scope) with the reason “I don’t know” and having no initiative to try to find out anything about it, but have the cheek (and very high initiative) to ask you to do follow-up on their case of not getting paid enough, and have the cheek to ask you to promote them to a department that is even higher than your own manager’s position?

What would you do to this guy? As far as employment rights is concerned, of course his case (if there’s any) should be followed up. But would it be worth it? I am in no position of paying him or decided how much he would get paid. Should I even bother?

Or,

Should I throw him out of the window instead?

Anyone?

    Fird: I dah cakap dah. He’s like a stone. Only sole purpose of existence is to count money at the end of the month. However, he seems to improve a bit lately – thanks to social and peer pressure around him. Looks like it’s not just me who’s affected :D

    But betul lah Ross…it’s the time of the year kot where salary increment is the only word around. Or, I’m suspecting it’s due to the pressure his left brain is giving his right brain. This is the direct result of the gov announcing increment for their servants. HOH??

    Fird: Yeah perhaps, but what I’m annoyed is that he did not know where his foot stands on. He’s barely a year into the job, and am already wanting to go for a position two levels higher than him – what in the world!? Most of the time I’m receiving complains that this dude is hanging on the phone (office phone abuse) most of the time, plus his already-troublesome reluctance of doing his work.

    Maybe one of the cause is that he got such a reliable partner (in the team) that does almost all the jobs efficiently. I think I will separate them, and make sure this guy stands on his own. It won’t bother me so much if he only causes himself trouble – but he is affecting the entire team with his shitty attitude.

    In your position, always be on your guard. Things might go well at the moment but keep an eye always. Almost everywhere there are people like this. There are no reasoning with them. Their motto is minimum productivity, maximum wage, maximum hell for the superior. Study them well, note who the friends are.     But kan Ross, does he knows that you know bout all the nonsense he’s doin? Sometimes kan employees need to know that their bosses know what shit they’re doin in the office, then only they’ll shape up.

    Fird: Yeah I’m pretty sure he knows that I know all his misbehaviors. He just don’t give a damn, and no words can penetrate the thick skull. We even have several 1-to-1 talks about all this. Serveral! Anyway, my manager is taking over this dude, so I’ll just watch from far :/
