How To: Preview your website in many browers with BrowserShots

For most web developers, they are happy enough when their websites work with the popular browsers such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari or Opera. However, there might be some among us that are very picky (or curious) on how our site looks like on any other browser in different platforms.

While this could be done with tools like VMware and a lot of OS purchase/downloading, there’s an easier, way cheaper and less painful way to do so – Browsershots!

Using this tool is absolutely simple, and as with any other online applications, some patience is necessary.

To begin, open up Browsershots, and input your site’s URL in the box, and click on the Start button:
Browsershots.org - Main Page

You will then see the plethora of browsers and platforms to choose for the testing:
Browsershots.org - Platform Selection Page

Once you’ve done selecting the platform you wish to test on, hit “Submit Jobs“. From this point on, you have to wait. I would suggest you leave this page and come back one or two hours later.

How do I check my Screenshots?

Simple – repeat the first step again, yes, put the exact same URL, and lick “Start” again. You will then see something like this:
Browsershots.org - Results Page

Click on the thumbnails to see a full preview of your website, and investigate why some of the elements appear differently, if any.
