Police Station, JPN, Putrajaya and JPJ

Note: If you’re looking forward to renewing a driving license or getting a new driving license at JPJ Putrajaya, save your effort, because they don’t offer it there!

I went to meet bebe a few days back, and in one incident after we came home from Carrefour, Alamanda, we realized that bebe‘s purse was lost. We searched all over the house, car and anywhere we ever step foot into. After hours of brain-recalling session, we failed to locate the purse. So we concluded that it was lost (even though it is highly unlikely, in our memory)

So anyways, we went to the Dengkil Police Station to file the report. Here’s one interesting view. Honestly, I’ve never been to any police station in my life – yeah, really. So We went in, told them that we’re gonna report a missing Identity Card and Driving’s License. One of them (there’s two officers on the counter) took charge and started asking bebe about the details. Suddenly her mobile phone rang and she picked it up (in the midst of us telling the details) and talked, loudly and proudly to her friend for a while, before telling him/her (and everyone else in the room, and the next room) that she’s on duty and will call later. Shortly after that came another officer from another room, busy SMS-ing on the mobile.

One more thing, this particular small police station is THE place if you want to go clubbing. Why? Because it has LOUD dance-able hip hop music, it is SECURE (hey there are COPs around!) AND it’s dark and gloomy! The perfect place for clubbing minus the police officers. I wonder if it’s the trend with police stations now? *shrugs*

So we asked the officer where can we obtain a new driving’s license, and she pointed out that the JPJ in Putrajaya doesn’t offer the service, and nearest would be in Kajang. We noted the info and then realized that it was already 6.30pm, so we decided to go to the JPN (for the IC) and JPJ the next day.

Okay, so it begins – the long and dreaded journey of obtaining these important documents.

12.00pm – Arrival at the JPN (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara)
The building is huge, and pretty. But there were two major thing absolutely missing from the moment we entered-

  1. People
Yeah, there’s almost nobody at the JPN when we arrived. It was not a public holiday nor any special day at that time. The only other person we met is another guy with similar business – obtain an I/C.
  2. Clear and Concise Directions/Directory/Map
We were totally confused by the listing of the departments in this building. None of them signify which is the actual place to register yourself for the IC or the PR. We asked the only guy we met and he seemed to have the same problem, and was about to ask us too. Finally, we asked the janitor and she pointed out that it is to be done on the 2nd Floor. (Go Janitor!)

So we went to the 2nd floor and, again, find the place spookily unoccupied. We entered the first room and took a number. Since there’s almost nobody there, our number was called promptly, we went to the counter only to be told that we were in the wrong room, and we should go to the other bigger room (explains why this room is weirdly small).

So we went to the bigger room, took a number and again, promptly called. Told the officer what happened, presented the police report. He was trying to be funny when we asked how much is the fine that we have to pay for the case, by mumbling something like

“Uh, tak mahal, RM200-RM300 je…”

bebe was thunderstrucked. She froze there (literally), her mouth wide open, on the chair looking at the officer, blinking rapidly every second. I was on the verge of worrying about bebe breaking down in a short moment – but luckily that guy snapped her out of it by saying he’s kidding. Phew. Poyo betul.

Then, he told us that we needed to pay the fees (the Fine + processing fees) immediately. Now we were both thunderstrucked since we didn’t know that we had to pay it then (We both thought we need to pay it only when collecting). So we dug into our pockets all over and manage to come up with exactly what’s needed. At that moment, we felt so pathetically sad. But the officer told us it’s a norm for people who’ve lost their purse/wallet.

So anyways, the process went smoothly, they had chats about places in Pahang for a bit and we went to the photo counter and bebe got her photo taken for the new IC and we were awarded with bebe‘s temporary IC.

We then had lunch at the JPN‘s cafeteria situated on the ground floor. There’s this cute notice on the cafeteria’s door saying:

Kakitangan Kerajaan dilarang untuk makan di kafeteria ketika waktu pejabat

I chuckled at the sign and went in. Foods are priced reasonably (one full plate of Mee around RM2.50 – thank god, because after paying the fine, (combined), we only had like, six bucks left).

After the short meal, we went to the bank at Precint 8 to withdraw some cash and hunt for the JPJ. This is the nice part. According to the information we got, the supposedly nearest JPJ is in Kajang, since the JPJ in Putrajaya doesn’t seem to issue new license. Fine, so I went into a car dealer/insurance agent place to ask about JPJ (these people generally deal with them everyday). And once again, got a disappointing answer – he said he only know one in Wangsa Maju, and also told me that the JPJ in Putrajaya does not issue license.

We were still hungry, really. So we had another meal at Precint 8′s food court and off we went to supposedly find JPJ. On the way there, we stopped by Putrajaya’s Police Station just to ask where’s JPJ, (because) they are supposedly more knowledgeable in this stuff. So we asked at the info counter only to find us getting scolded by the officer:

Us : Excuse me, just want to ask, where’s the nearest JPJ around here? We need to make a new license because hers is lost, we already made reports and got the temp IC
Him : Well, there’s one in Putrajaya, Parcel D
Us : But the people keep telling us that the JPJ there is only a department, and we can’t make license there
Him : Who did you ask!?
Us : Well, the JPN officer, the car dealer and the Dengkil police officer
Him : That’s Why! They don’t know what they’re dealing with! You should have asked the related people next time! Now listen to me, the JPJ in Putrajaya can do this license! Understand? Don’t listen to anyone not qualified next time!
Us : uhm, okay, Thanks sir.

And so we went to Parcel D.

After two rounds across the basement parking lot, we parked the car at the side of the road, because there’s nowhere else to park. We walked to the Parcel D, block #4, and asked the JPJ officer there about making a new license.

Surprise!

She told us that they don’t offer such service there. (she was listening to dance-able beyonce’s song hehe). We need to go to the other JPJs located in either PJ, Wangsa Maju, Klang or Shah Alam. We were totally pissed at that so called “knowledgable and qualified” information counter officer for telling us an absolutely wrong and totally unreliable information.

So pissed as we were, we decided to go to any of the JPJs in our list. We picked Kajang, because it’s a small town compared to the other four. So we went to Kajang and asked around for JPJ.

Osaka Bleh. Smaller Version

Surprise! (AGAIN!)

Two locals told us that “There’s no JPJ in Kajang! Must go Semenyih, about 5-6 miles from here”.

Once again, yet another police officer told us a wrong information (the “JPJ is in Kajang” was told by the Dengkil police officer). Fine. Since we were there anyways, might as well go all the way, since its “only 5-6 miles” away.

We drove along the Kajang-Semenyih road for almost twenty minutes and FINALLY found the JPJ. We noticed something odd about this particular JPJ. First, it had a bunch of small traffic lights at their entrance. We thought it was for decoration so we went pass that and parked. Went to the building and asked about the license.

Surprise! (YET AGAIN!)

The officer told us that we can’t do it there. It is a place to weigh lorries (tempat timbang lori).

We broke down. Seven people with totally wrong info. (Or did we ask wrongly?)

Pissed, Tensed and Totally Worked up, we drove back to Putrajaya and spent time in Alamanda, then went to Ikea for some lookarounds, then finally went to UpTown (the new Downed UpTown… I miss the old UpTown *sniff*) and then went back for a good sleep.

Next time, we’ll be careful of people who claim that they’re “knowledgable and are qualified” to the subject. Especially if that person is a Police Officer. No offense intended. Purely from experience.

What a long day. *stretches*

As for JPJ..ouch..I just let my old driving school settle the stuff for me..XD

  • Fird says:

The IC is settled in PJN in Putrajaya. Neways the fine for 2nd time loss is RM30.00 + RM10.00 processing fee and + RM10.00 application fee, thus making is RM50.00 total.

As for the JPJ, yeah some other day :p
